The Geopark is a living landscape – where outdoor recreation, science, and community values come together
The Tumbler Ridge UNESCO Global Geopark is a defining part of this region. Covering more than 21,000 square kilometres, it holds a globally significant collection of geological, ecological, and cultural features—including dinosaur trackways, fossil beds, towering waterfalls, alpine ridges, and long-standing cultural sites.
Designated in 2014, it remains the only UNESCO Global Geopark in British Columbia and one of just five in Canada. But its importance runs deeper than the title.
The Geopark is a living landscape—where outdoor recreation, science, and community values come together. It reminds us that trails are not just routes through the wilderness, but pathways through time. Every step taken on this land carries a story: of shifting continents, ancient ecosystems, and the people who’ve called this place home.
Within TRORA, the Geopark plays an advisory and supporting role. It brings scientific insight and sustainability knowledge to the table, helping guide trail planning, environmental education, and community programming. As TRORA works to support responsible recreation, the Geopark helps ensure that curiosity, care, and conservation remain at the heart of that journey.

The Geopark helps people see the land differently. Being part of TRORA lets us share that perspective – so recreation isn’t just fun, it’s meaningful.
